In this piece, I express Native American and Japanese cross-cultural worldview by using Native American traditional beading techniques. I use Native American traditional beading technique, with traditional brain-tanned deer-hide, 13cut-beads, 24K Gold cut-beads, feathers and antique Japanese Kimono textiles. I bead on a Japanese fan design. Fan painting is a Japanese traditional art form. Also in Native American cultures, fan is a traditional and sacred object. Japanese beautiful nature is usually used as the motif of fan paintings. We enjoy the beauty of nature on a fan. In this piece, I depict beauty of significant Japanese cultural plants, bamboo, plum and pine, and plants from Native American land, cactus.
